HILLSDALE, Mich. - Senior Karl Finley scored 24 points as the Tiffin University men's basketball team (6-9, 1-7 GLIAC) fell short in a 78-69 loss to #34 Hillsdale (13-1, 7-0 GLIAC), Saturday afternoon at Hillsdale Gym.
For most of the first half, Hillsdale could not shake a pesky Tiffin squad. The lead was over five points only once in the first 15 minutes. The Chargers hit two buckets to lead 31-23 with 4:23 to go.
The Dragons closed the half with a 13-5 run. Brad Guinane hit a three-pointer with 45 seconds left to put HC up 36-33. Finley drained one from the top of the arc with 17 seconds left. That made it 36-36 at the half.
In the second half, the first 14 minutes were a battle. Hillsdale was up 58-55 with 6:31 to go when they made a move to put the game away. A 7-1 run put the Chargers up 65-56 with 4:19 to go.
HC held an eight point lead with a minute to go. Freshman Iman Johnson grabbed a rebound and hit a lay-up. That made it 74-69, Hillsdale with 35 seconds left. The Chargers hit four free throws the rest of the way to seal the game.
For Tiffin, Finley hit four 3-pointers, while senior Keenan Barlow, sophomore Joe Graessle and Johnson scored 10 points each.
For Hillsdale, Guinane had 21 points and Tyler Gerber scored 15 points with seven assists.
