TIFFIN, Ohio - Senior Lindsay Heller had 12 digs and sophomore Danielle McQuade had 15 kills and hit .480 as the Tiffin University volleyball team (0-5) lost 3-0 (25-20, 25-17, 25-16) to Malone (2-3), Tuesday night at the Gillmor Center.
In the first set, Tiffin came out smoking, scoring the first six points. Three of those came via kills from McQuade. Malone then went on a 20-12 run to lead 20-18.
Freshman Keyonna Gregory and sophomore McKenzie Wright stuffed Taylor Slauterbeck of Malone. That made it 20-19, Malone. The Pioneers closed the set with a 5-1 run.
In the second set, the two teams battled back and forth in the early going. The Dragons forced a service error to trail by one, 7-6. MU would score five straight points to effectively end the set.
In the third set, Wright found the back line with her spike. That made it 6-5, Malone. The Pioneers scored five straight points. TU could not get closer than four points the rest of the way.
For Tiffin, McQuade had 15 kills with just two errors to hit .480. Sophomore Jordan Jenkins had two service aces while Heller had 12 digs. It was her fifth straight double-digit dig performance and moves her to 1263, 14th best in TU history.
For Malone, Megan Fisher and Hannah Haver had eight kills apiece while Lauren Townley recorded two service aces.
Tiffin begins a five game road trip Friday, Sept. 9, taking on Lake Superior State. The match is scheduled to start at 7:00 p.m. Live stats will be available at http://livestats.prestosports.com/lssu/.
