TIFFIN, Ohio - Sophomore Jordan Jenkins had 14 digs and freshman Erin Turner had four service aces as the Tiffin University volleyball team (2-10, 2-5 GLIAC) knocked off Lake Erie (2-7, 1-6 GLIAC) 3-0 (25-15, 25-19, 27-25), Tuesday night at the Gillmor Center.
In the first set, Tiffin rolled out to a 9-3 lead and never looked back. Lake Erie got as close as 14-9 before the Dragons closed on an 11-6 run.
In the second set, the match was tied at 5-5. The Storm got a block and kill to go up 7-5. TU responded with an 8-1 run to make it 13-8.
Lake Erie scored four straight points to close the gap to 13-12. Tiffin made a 9-4 stretch to lead, 22-16. The Storm refused to quit getting three straight points. The Dragons scored the next three points, ending the set on an ace from sophomore McKenzie Wright.
In the third set, TU jumped out to a 6-2 lead. Lake Erie responded with an 8-2 spurt to lead 10-8. The two squads kept battling back and forth.
Tiffin faced the first moment of truth down 24-21. They forced a hitting error and then got kills from senior Lindsay Heller and Jenkins to tie the match at 24-24.
The Dragons served the ball into the net to find themselves one point away from a fourth set. Sophomore Danielle McQuade rifled a shot through a hole in the Storm block.
Freshman Tiffany Buchinger then dumped the ball over to make it 26-25. McQuade blasted a shot off two Storm players in the back row to end the match.
For Tiffin, McQuade had 14 kills and hit .429 while Wright collected 12 digs. Defensively, Turner had six blocks and freshman Keyonna Gregory added five blocks. Heller had 10 digs, moving her career total to 1354.
Tiffin hits the road, Friday, Sept. 30, taking on Ohio Dominican. The match is scheduled to start at 7:00 p.m. Live stats will be available at http://livestats.prestosports.com/ohiodominican/.
