TIFFIN, Ohio -Senior Lindsay Heller had a season-high 24 digs as the Tiffin University volleyball team (1-10, 1-5 GLIAC) lost 3-1 (17-25, 25-16, 25-21, 25-19) to Ashland (7-3, 5-1 GLIAC) Friday night at the Gillmor Center.
In the first, Tiffin stormed out to a 10-3 lead. Sophomore Jordan Jenkins led the way with three kills. Ashland could get no closer than six the rest of the way. The Dragons had 14 kills with just two errors to hit .429.
In the second set, the Eagles took an early 7-2 lead. TU fought back with a 6-1 run. Sophomore Danielle McQuade served up an ace to tie the match at 8-8.
The teams traded points to make it 9-9. AU took the lead at 17-14 before freshman Tiffany Buchinger dumped the ball over to make it 17-15. Ashland closed the set with an 8-1 run.
In the third set, the Eagles controlled the early part of the game. They scored the first seven points and looked to be in charge with a 17-11 run.
Tiffin refused to surrender without a fight. They went on a 10-6 run to close the gap. Freshman Erin Turner crushed the ball off the block to make it 23-21. AU forced errors on the next two plays to take the set.
In the fourth set, the two teams went back and forth until it was 10-10. Ashland then scored three points to establish a rhythm. A Dragon block made it 13-11. The Eagles went on a 5-1 run to effectively end the match.
For Tiffin, Turner led the attack with 10 kills while Buchinger had 32 assists. Heller had 24 digs while Jenkins collected 18. Heller now has 1344 career digs, moving her past Brooke Bernabei (2007-10) for 11th all-time.
For Ashland, Kathy Fletcher had 11 kills while Arian Martin had 18 digs.
