TIFFIN, Ohio -Sophomore Jordan Jenkins had a career-high 22 digs as the Tiffin University volleyball team (6-20, 5-12 GLIAC) beat Ohio Dominican (11-16, 4-13 GLIAC) 3-1 (23-25, 25-20, 26-24, 25-12), Wednesday night at the Gillmor Center.
In the first set, Ohio Dominican jumped out to an early 3-0 lead. Tiffin scored three in a row to tie it at 3-3. They traded points until 10-10.
The Panthers scored four in a row and built an 18-13 lead. The Dragons scored three in a row off blocks. Sophomore Danielle McQuade blasted the ball off an ODU player to make it 18-17.
Ohio Dominican pushed the lead to 20-17. TU scored three in a row, tying the match on a block by freshman Erin Turner and sophomore McKenzie Wright. They battled back and forth until 22-22. The Panthers went on a 3-1 run to end the set.
In the second set, Tiffin scored the first three points of the game. It was eventually pushed to 17-13. Rachel Billing and Brianna Reder picked up kills to make it 17-15.
The Dragons closed the set on an 8-5 run. Wright bounced the ball off the block to tie the match at 1-1.
In the third set, TU was firing on all cylinders early, jumping to a 5-1 lead. ODU then went on a 10-4 burst. That made it 11-9, Ohio Dominican.
Tiffin fought back will a back row kill from Jenkins making it 15-14. The Panthers responded with a 9-5 run. That gave ODU the lead at 24-19.
On the serve by Meredith Shifley, senior Lindsay Heller popped the ball up near the net. Freshman Tiffany Buchinger smashed it over to make it 24-20. Jenkins came in to serve and the Dragons fought off four match point opportunities.
McQuade was off balance and somehow got the ball over and off the block. That tied the match at 24-24. Junior Maggie Betz got the ball through a hole in the block and found the corner. Billing's spike attempt was long giving TU seven straight points and the set.
In the fourth set, Tiffin staked out to an early 6-4 lead. The Dragons scored seven straight points to effectively end the match.
For Tiffin, McQuade had 14 kills and 11 digs while Betz had nine kills. Buchinger had 42 assists, Turner had nine total blocks and Wright had 13 digs and five total blocks. Heller had 18 digs, giving her 1573 in her career, eighth all-time.
For Ohio Dominican, Reder had 10 kills and Stacy Rogg had 17 digs.
Tiffin hits the road, Friday, Nov. 4, against Ashland. The match is scheduled to start at 7:00 p.m.
