Tiffin University (0-6, 0-5 GLIAC) were unable to cage the Eagles of Ashland University (4-2, 4-1) at the 2011 Homecoming football game, as the Eagles scored in every quarter en route to a 70-13 victory.
Ashland wasted little time getting on the scoreboard, intercepting a pass from James Capello and returning it 25 yards for a score at the 13:51 mark of the opening quarter. Ashland added 14 points points in the first 15 minutes to lead 21-0 after one quarter.
Capello left the game after the interception due to injury, allowing Dan Pitts to lead the Dragons for the remainder of the game. Pitts led TU on its second drive 53 yards downfield, getting as far as the Ashland 37 before the drive stalled.
Ashland kept up the attack, tacking on 21 more second quarter points to put the game out of reach at halftime 42-0.
Tiffin got on the scoreboard at the 7:02 mark of the third quarter when, trailing 49-0, Pitts hit Brendton Williams on a 17 yard play in the end zone. The Dragons also closed scoring in the game, adding a touchdown at the 6:40 mark of the fourth quarter when Pitts hit Obadiah Dykes on a 40 yard scoring play.
Ashland put together a strong rushing and passing attack totaling 590 yards while TU finished with 341 yards of offense. The Eagles had 293 on the ground and 313 in the air. They also forced three TU turnovers, including 2 interceptions.
Pitts finished with 302 yards through the air on 30 of 53 passing and 2 touchdowns while also taking 2 sacks. Marcus Beaurem led the receivers with 88 yards on 7 catches while Dykes also had another solid game with 71 yards on 4 receptions.
Williams accounted for 155 all-purpose yards, including 117 return yards. Ten different Dragons caught passes in the game.
Defensively Michael Gomez led TU with 12 tackles while Michael Debesay also had another solid game up front with 10 tackles. Ravelle Sadler had an interception along with 9 tackles, while Rafael Cuellar had a sack.
