CANTON, Ohio - Junior Maureen Kurtz had 10 kills as the Tiffin University volleyball team (3-11) lost 3-1 (21-25, 25-18, 25-16, 25-17) to Malone (13-7), Wednesday evening at Osborne Hall.
In the opening set, Tiffin stormed out to an early 15-9 lead. Malone fired back with a 12-8 run. A kill from Jackie Schwamberger made it 23-21. The Dragons got a block and a service ace from sophomore Jordan Jenkins to end the set.
In the second set, the Pioneers came out on a tear with a 14-3 run. TU dug their heels in and fired back with a 13-5 run. Kurtz found the back corner to make it 19-16. MU closed the set with a 6-2 stanza.
The third set went back and forth until it was 15-14. Malone scored six straight points to effectively end the set.
In the fourth set, the Pioneers jumped out to an early 13-7 lead. Tiffin fought back with an 8-5 spurt. A block from sophomores Danielle McQuade and McKenzie Wright made it 18-15. MU closed with a 7-2 run to end the match.
For Tiffin, senior Lindsay Heller had 16 digs. That gives her 1388 career digs, 11th best in TU history.
