TIFFIN, Ohio - Sophomore Jordan Jenkins had 13 digs as the Tiffin University volleyball team (5-19, 4-11 GLIAC) lost 3-0 (25-15, 25-21, 25-16) to Grand Valley State (13-11, 10-7 GLIAC), Saturday afternoon at the Gillmor Center.
In the first set, Grand Valley raced out to an 11-5 lead. Tiffin came back with a 5-2 run. Sophomore Danielle McQuade nailed the ball crosscourt to make it 13-10. The Lakers scored five straight points to seal the set.
In the second set, GVSU looked to be in control with a 17-11 lead. The Dragons responded with a 9-5 run. Freshman Tiffany Buchinger slammed the ball home off a set by senior Lindsay Heller.
That made it 22-20, Grand Valley. The Lakers closed on a 3-1 run with Abby Ebels finding the back corner to finish the set.
In the third set, GVSU took the early 16-10 lead. TU fought back with a 5-2 spurt. Sophomore McKenzie Wright crushed the ball off the block to make it 18-15. Grand Valley went on a 7-1 run to take the match.
For Tiffin, McQuade had 10 kills and 10 digs, her 12th double-double of the season, eighth in a row while Buchinger had 10 digs. Heller had 10 digs, giving her 1543 in her career, ninth all-time in TU history. She needs 10 digs to pass Jody Dillinger (1552 - 1995-98) for eighth.
For Grand Valley State, Abby Aiken had 11 kills and Sacha Gill had 11 digs.
