TIFFIN, Ohio - Sophomore Danielle McQuade had 16 kills and 18 digs as the Tiffin University volleyball team (5-17, 4-9 GLIAC) lost 3-1 (25-20, 24-26, 25-13, 25-19) to Wayne State (11-11, 7-7 GLIAC), Tuesday evening at the Gillmor Center.
In the first set, the teams battled back and forth until it was 8-8. Wayne State went on a 5-1 run to lead 13-9. Tiffin responded with six straight points. A block from junior Maggie Betz and McQuade made it 15-13.
The Warriors called timeout and came back with three straight points to lead 16-15. It went back and forth until it was 19-17. Senior Lindsay Heller dropped the ball in to close to one, 19-18. The Warriors finished on a 6-2 run to take the set.
The second set was one of runs. The Dragons opened with an 8-4 lead. WSU got kills from Jen Finkbeiner and Madie Kent to make it 8-6.
TU put up an 8-4 rally to lead 16-10. Wayne State had a 4-1 run ended with a kill from Finkbeiner. That made it 17-14.
Tiffin put on the pressure building to a 22-17 lead. The Warriors called timeout and came back with six straight points. A service ace from Kent put WSU up 23-22.
The moment of truth came with the Dragons trailing 24-23. Freshman Erin Turner bounced the ball off the block to make it 24-23. TU got a kill from McQuade and forced an error to tie the match at 1-1.
In the third set, Wayne State took the early 9-7 lead. Sophomore McKenzie Wright slammed one home to make it 9-8. The Warriors scored six straight points to effectively end the set.
In the fourth set, it went back and forth until it was 13-12, Tiffin. The Dragons forced two errors and got a kill from Wright. That made it 16-12.
The Warriors went on an 8-1 run to lead 20-17. Wright smashed the ball off the top of the head of a WSU player to make it 20-18. Wayne State closed the set with a 5-1 run to take the match.
For Tiffin, McQuade had her 10th double-double of the season, sixth in a row while sophomore Jordan Jenkins had 10 digs. Senior Lindsay Heller had 13 digs, giving her 1517 in her career, ninth all-time in TU history.
For Wayne State, Nicole Arends had 17 kills, Kristen Bulkiewicz had 17 kills and 15 digs and Candice Ottey tallied 13 kills.
