TIFFIN, Ohio - Sophomore Danielle McQuade had 17 kills and 16 digs as the Tiffin University volleyball team (5-15, 4-7 GLIAC) lost 3-1 (25-23, 27-29, 26-24, 25-18) to Findlay (10-11, 4-9 GLIAC), Friday night at the Gillmor Center.
In the first set, Findlay jumped to an early 7-4 lead. Tiffin then went on a 13-4 run. Junior Maureen Kurtz spiked the ball down the line to make it 17-11.
The Oilers came back with six straight points. Samantha Granger bounced the ball off the block to tie it at 17-17. The teams went back and forth until 23-23. Findlay then picked up two kills to end the set.
In the second set, the Oilers stormed out to a 12-5 lead. The Dragons scored five straight points to make it 12-10, Findlay. The two squads traded points until 17-17.
TU got a solo block and a kill from sophomore McKenzie Wright. That made it 19-17, Tiffin. It was a battle after that with a total of three set points being defended. Down 27-26, the Dragons forced three straight attack errors to take the set.
In the third set, TU took an early 13-9 lead. The Oilers got a kill and then two aces from Rachael Hammond. That made it 13-12, Tiffin.
The Dragons went on a 7-2 run to lead, 20-14. Findlay then rallied with six straight points to knot it at 20-20. It was a roller coaster as TU scored two points and Findlay tallied four straight.
Down 24-22, Tiffin made another charge. Kills from Wright and Kurtz tied it at 24-24. The Dragons committed two errors to give the set to the Oilers.
In the fourth set, the two teams went back and forth. McQuade found the back corner to bring TU back to two, 9-7. The Oilers went on a 10-6 run to effectively finish off the match.
For Tiffin, McQuade had her eighth double-double of the season, fourth in a row. Wright had 11 kills while sophomore Jordan Jenkins had 15 digs. Senior Lindsay Heller had 17 digs, giving her 1488 in her career, ninth all-time in TU history.
For Findlay, Danielle Taflinger had 21 kills and hit .581 while Mackenzie Vorst added 17 kills. Jessica Vonins had 50 assists and 12 digs.
Tiffin remains home, Saturday, Oct. 22, taking on #8 Hillsdale. The match is scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m. Live stats will be available at http://livestats.prestosports.com/tiffin/.
