ALLENDALE, Mich. - The Dragons won the first two points of the match, but it was all the Lakers after that point as Grand Valley State (18-5, 14-2) beat Tiffin (11-13, 7-7) 25-13, 25-17, 25-21 Friday night in Allendale, Mich.

Grand Valley State hit .556 in the first set and never looked back as the Lakers outhit the Dragons .276-.077. However, Tiffin out-blocked Grand Valley State 6-5. Danielle McQuade nearly missed a double-double with 10 digs and a team-leading eight kills. Jessica Adams and Ashley Begeman added 10 assists apiece and Lindsay Heller led the Dragons with 13 digs.

Krysta Kornack and Stacey Catalano both had 11 kills for the Lakers while Meghan Scanlon had a double-double with 21 assists and 14 digs. Courtney McCotter paced Grand Valley with 16 digs.

Tiffin took a 2-0 lead out of the game thanks to two errors by Grand Valley. The Lakers fought back and actually took a 5-4 lead before four-straight points gave the Dragons a three-point advantage. During the mini run, Brooke Bernabei recorded a kill to tie the match and rotated over to serve. An ace, a GVSU error and a kill later and Tiffin went up 8-5. With the match tied at 11, Leslie Curtis and Sacha Gill went on long service runs to help Grand Valley to a 12-1 run and 23-12 lead. Tiffin won the next point, but a Stace Catalano kill and an assisted block gave the Lakers the first set.

It was too little, too late for the Dragons in the second set. Down 23-11, Tiffin took six of the final eight points of the set to only fall by eight. With the Lakers up 12, Bernabei recorded a kill and gave McQuade the serve. A kill by Maureen Kurtz, a pair of GVSU attack errors and another Bernabei kill cut the deficit to 23-16. Abby Ebels put the Tiffin rally attempt aside with a kill of her own, but the Dragons repelled the first set point on a block by Giavanna DiPietro and Kurtz. However, a McCotter kill ended the set and gave the Lakers an eight-point win.

In the third, Tiffin took a 10-8 lead on a Teaford ace, but Grand Valley went on a run of its own and took a 19-14 advantage. A Bernabei kill and a double block by Teaford and Bernabei brought the Dragons within three at 19-16, but TU could come no closer. Tiffin proved to be a tough out on Grand Valley set point up 24-19 after a McQuade kill and a Laker error brought the Dragons back within three, but an Olivia Kohler kill ended the match for Grand Valley.

Tiffin returns to action tomorrow when it takes on Ferris State. First serve is set for 2 p.m.
