Dragons down Cedarville in three straight

TIFFIN, Ohio - The Dragons (10-6) were able to hold off the Yellow Jackets by five in the first two sets before rolling in the third game for the win 25-20, 25-20, 25-13 over Cedarville Tuesday night at the Gillmor Center.

Tiffin outhit Cedarville in the match .267-.065 and outblocked the Yellow Jackets 8.0-1.0. Individually, TU setter Jessica Adams had a game-high 32 assists while Danielle McQuade contributed 10 kills. Libero Lindsay Heller recorded 14 digs while Brittany Teaford added four blocks.


For Cedarville, Emilie Lynch tallied a game-high 11 kills while Erica Bartholomew added 31 assists. Heather Kirkpatrick recorded 14 digs.

With Tiffin holding a slim 7-6 lead, a service error put Tiffin back on serve. A Brooke Bernabei kill and a Yellow Jacket attack error put the Dragons up four. Cedarville fought back to tie the set at 15, but Tiffin won 10 of the last 15 points to take the first set by five.

Set two saw Tiffin jump out to a 13-6 lead only for Cedarville to respond with long service runs to take a 16-15 lead. However, a Bartholomew service error tied the match. Tiffin then built a lead they would not relinquish thanks to two Cedarville attack errors and a Teaford kill. A pair of sideouts put Tiffin on serve and a Bernabei service ace and a pair of Teaford kills put Tiffin up 23-17 and all but ended the set. Five points later, the Dragons had another five-point set win.

In the third, Tiffin hit a blistering .652 (15 kills on 23 attacks with no errors) in the match's finale for the 12-point win. Cedarville actually won the first two points in the set, but the Dragons fought back for the 10-9 lead. After a Bernabei kill gave Heller the serve, Tiffin quickly took a five-point advantage thanks to a trio of Cedarville attack errors.

Later in the set, Teaford all but sunk the Yellow Jackets with her serve. Up 18-12, Teaford tallied a kill to put herself on serve. Three TU kills, a service ace and an attack error by Cedarville put Tiffin on match point at 24-12. Husak kept the Yellow Jackets alive with a kill, but a Maureen Kurtz kill ended the match.

Tiffin returns to action this weekend when it travels to Aurora, Ill. to take part in the annual GLIAC-GLVC Crossover Tournament. The Dragons face UW-Parkside at 11:30 a.m. and Indianapolis at 5:30 p.m. on Friday (Oct. 15) before concluding play Saturday (Oct. 16) against Missouri-St. Louis at 1 p.m.
