Aniciete finishes as national runner-up at NCAA Championships

Anthony Aniciete finished as national runner-up at 125 pounds, only the second Tiffin University men's wrestler to finish as national runner-up.

Tiffin, which has had three national champions in its history, nearly had another as Aniciete made a strong run at the NCAA Championships. He won his semifinal match over Grand Valley State 13-4 to reach the title bout. He then took on Shane Corrigan of Wisconsin-Parkside. After a close first period that saw the score tied 4-4, Corrigan took control, eventually winning 13-4.

The runner-up finish places Aniciete in good company, joining Trey Grine who finished 2nd in 2019 at 149 pounds. It is also the best showing ever for a 125-pound wrestler, eclipsing Aniciete's 6th place finish last season. Branden Mendoza is the only other 125-pound wrestler for Tiffin to garner All American honors, as he also finished 8th in 2023.

Also landing All American honors was Nolan Gessler (165). Gessler lost his semifinal match 10-5 to Nebraska-Kearney and then lost by medical forfeit to University of Mary. He also forfeited the 5th-place bout to Wisconsin-Parkside. Overall Gessler finished 6th, his second consecutive All American honor.
