Tiffin opens G-MAC play at Ohio Dominican



Tiffin University (1-1) travels to Columbus, Ohio to take on Ohio Dominican (1-0) in its G-MAC opener at 12 pm on Sept. 20.

Tiffin holds a 9-7 overall record against the Panthers and have won 7 in a row dating back to 2018. Over that stretch TU has outscored ODU 233-127 including a 103-36 margin over the last three seasons. Tiffin has averaged 33 points per game over the last seven meetings.

LAST TIME OUT

Tiffin University (1-1) traveled to Big Rapids, Michigan to take on top-ranked Ferris State, falling in an epic shootout 41-34. Both teams showed off powerhouse offenses, with FSU outgaining TU 534-405. Tiffin did most of its damage through the air, with Alex Johnson connecting on 24 of 37 passes for 340 yards and 3 touchdowns. Tiffin had 23 first downs to FSU's 21.

OHIO DOMINICAN NOTES

Ohio Dominican enters its G-MAC opener 1-0 following a 31-0 win at West Virginia Wesleyan on September 11. 

The Panthers were selected seventh in the G-MAC Preseason Coaches Poll. 

The Panthers had three rushers over 60 yards in the opener. Markquan Rucker had 70 yards and two touchdowns, Isaiah Schmidtke had 67 yards, and Nathan Webster rushed for 60 with one touchdown.  

Drew Gallehue started at QB and went 14 for 17 for 202 yards with one touchdown. Redshirt freshmen Carson Parker and Cole Burton also saw playing time at QB as well. Parker went 2 for 3 for 17 yards and Burton completed 1 of 2 passes for 4 yards.  

Connor Campbell had a big game at receiver in the opener, catching 3 passes for 91 yards with one touchdown. Joshua Moore caught 6 for 68 yards and Jayden Cornell had 3 catches for 27 yards.  

Quentin Wagers had two sacks and two tackles for loss in the opener while RJ Maddox and Kaden Holmes both snagged an interception. Holmes and Romearo Wells both have two pass break ups. As a team, ODU totaled 7 tackles for loss in the opener while Gabe Pence leads the team in solo tackles with 4.  

Henry Vakerics had a solid opener, nailing a 41-yard field goal while going 4 for 4 in PATs. Punter Logan Ortt booted it four times for 146 yards in the opener and pinned one kick inside the 20-yard line.  

As a team, the Panthers held West Virginia Wesleyan to just 105 yards of total offense while totaling 426. The Panthers did commit 100 yards in penalties though. ODU was also phenomenal in ball control, having it for 41 minutes while limiting the Bobcats to just 19 minutes.

Quarterback Alex Johnson is leading the G-MAC in passing yards per game with 296.5. Johnson is also the reigning G-MAC Offensive Player of the Week following 340 yards passing and three touchdowns at Ferris State last week. Through two games, the redshirt senior has gone 46 for 65 for 593 yards and five touchdowns.  

Running back Ronald Blackman leads the team in rushing, carrying the ball 35 times for 142 yards and one touchdown. Tyrese Banks-Dorn has 11 carries for 28 yards and one touchdown. Daniel Weems made his Tiffin debut last week and rushed four times for 11 yards.  

Ethan Holbrook, along with being a lethal punt returner, leads the team in receptions (12), receiving yards (125), and touchdowns (2). Blackman has 8 catches for 120 yards and Emari White has 6 catches for 107 yards and one touchdown. Other top receivers include Jaedyn McKinstry (4-91-1) and Will Linkhart (7-70).  

Holbrook has returned 4 punts for 92 yards with one touchdown and White has returned 3 kickoffs for 79 yards.  

Defensively, Jacob Tueimeh leads the team in solo tackles (11) and total tackles (21). Khris Walton has 10 tackles and leads the team in TFLs and sacks with two each. Jalen Coles and Isaiah Funches-Foster each have 9 tackles. Malik Baker has 7 tackles and is the reigning G-MAC Special Teams Player of the Week after returning a blocked field goal 77 yards for a touchdown. Danny Mason and Dennis Crawford both have two pass break ups.  

Placekicker Ben Rudolph is 7 for 8 on PATs and 2 for 2 on field goals through two games. Punter Joseph Weiers is leading the G-MAC in average yards per punt with 44.6 He's punted 7 times for 312 yards and has pinned 5 inside the 20-yard line which is tied for most in the conference.
