Tiffin University (7-4) split a pair of matches on the first day of its spring trip in Hilton Head, South Carolina, defeating Lake Superior State 5-2 and losing to Florida Southern 5-1.

Against the Lakers, Tiffin swept the doubles matches for the first point. Carina Avram/Anaelle Lepinay won the closest match 7-6 (7-3) while Celine Ferron/Francesca Milani won 6-2 and Emily Barrett/Jemimah Choi won 6-1.

Tiffin picked up four singles wins to secure the win. Avram had the toughest match, winning 7-6 (7-3), 6-4, while Choi won 6-4, 6-2.

Also getting wins were Barrett 6-1, 6-2 and Milani 6-0, 6-2.

Against Florida Southern, Tiffin's lone point came after doubles play. Avram/Lepinay won another close one 7-5 and Barrett/Choi secured the point with a 6-1 win.

Tiffn lost a number of close singles matches. Avram fell 6-3, 7-6 and Lepinay fell 6-4, 6-4.
