The Tiffin University volleyball team (7-11, 2-7 G-MAC) earned a four-set (25-27, 25-16, 25-15, 25-7) victory against Ursuline Saturday evening to cap homecoming weekend.
The Dragons got off to a blazing start as a kill from Olivia Karhoff and attack error by Ursuline gave Tiffin a 12-4 advantage. TU was unable to maintain the lead and momentum though as Ursuline scored five straight to turn a five-point deficit into an 18-18 tie. Ursuline took their first lead of the set after a kill to make it 24-23. After the Dragons tied it on a kill by Maddie Daniel, the Arrows won three of the final four points to take the first set.
After a sluggish start in the second set, Tiffin exploded for 10 straight points as they turned a 4-3 deficit into a 13-4 lead. During the run, the Dragons got kills from Kaylee Freund, Daniel, and Karhoff along with two service aces by Lexi Barber. TU kept control and Ursuline cut the deficit to seven late but the Dragons finished the set with back-to-back kills from Daniel and Karhoff.
The third set was tight early on that saw Ursuline hold an 8-6 advantage. With the score still 8-6, TU flipped the script winning seven of the next eight to lead 13-9. The Dragons stayed on top and closed out the set with kills by Katelyn Owens and Parker Vackert along with two attack errors by the Arrows.
The Dragons left no doubt in the fourth set. Tiffin won eight straight and 12 of the first 14 to lead 12-2. Four of Ursuline's seven points in the set came from TU errors. The Dragons closed it out with a kill by Avery Young and an ace by Karhoff.
The Dragons had 66 kills in the match, the most in any match this season. TU also had 63 assists, the second most in a match this season.
Tiffin hit .380 and Ursuline recorded a hitting percentage of .096.
Four Dragons finished with double digit kills. Karhoff had a team high 18, Freund had 15, Daniel had 13, and Parker Vackert finished with 11.
Maggie Pavlansky dished up 56 assists and had 11 digs. Morgan Morley recorded a team high 25 digs.
