Tiffin University went 1-2 at the NWCA National Duals in Cedar Falls, Iowa.
The Dragons, ranked 9th nationally, opened with a 22-18 win over #25 Maryville but then fell to top-ranked St. Cloud State 38-3 and 11th-ranked University of Mary 30-20.
Tiffin got five wins in the opener against Maryville.
Anthony Aniciete (125 pounds) opened with a 14-6 win and was followed by
Max Shore (133) with a 16-6 victory. After a couple shutout wins by Maryville,
Casey Barnett (157) picked up a pin fall victory in 1:37 and
Nolan Gessler (165) got a 15-0 tech fall win. Maryville again bounced back with a couple wins, but
Lucas Salmon (197) got Tiffin's clinching victory 7-5.
Against St. Cloud State, the Dragons got a single victory at 165 pounds from Gessler who won in sudden victory 5-2. The Dragons did fall in four other close matches, however, with
Max Shore falling 4-2, Barnett losing 6-0, Salmon falling 5-2, and
Jake Powell (285) suffering a 6-3 setback.
Lastly, against Mary, the Dragons suffered early losses and came back late to make it close. After Aniciete opened with a 5-1 win, TU dropped three straight weight classes. Barnett picked up a pin victory in 45 seconds but UMary bounced back for another win. Tiffin then won three of the final four matches.
Jakob Hurley (174) got a 7-1 win, Salmon posted a 10-0 shutout, and Powell got a 10-1 win at 285 pounds.
