Tiffin University had two champions and 15 total placers at the Ohio Northern Invitational.
Overall Tiffin finished 3rd of 12 teams, with Ohio Northern winning the event with 231 points. Olivet had 207 while Tiffin had 173.
Max Shore (133 pounds) won his weight class, posting four wins. He had a 19-4 win over Heidelberg, a 17-2 win over Washington & Jefferson, and a pin over Olivet in 1:15. He won the title with a 17-0 shutout of ONU.
Jakob Hurley (174) was the other champion. He opened with two pins, beating Otterbein in 1:37 and Olivet in 5:37. He then edged ONU 8-5 in sudden victory before taking the title with a 5-3 win over teammate
David Davis.
Davis placed second after falling to Hurley but opened with wins against Mount St. Joseph by fall in 1:55, Hiram by pin in 1:18, a 19-5 major decision over ONU, and a 14-8 victory over Ohio Wesleyan.
Cael Woods took third at 125 pounds. He pinned Ohio Wesleyan in 35 seconds and ONU in 1:46 before falling in a close 10-8 decision to Olivet. He bounced back with a pin in 23 seconds over Heidelberg and took third with a 4-1 win over Alma.
Gavin Owens (149) also took third. He opened with pins over Olivet in 1:15 and Ohio Wesleyan in 44 seconds. After falling to ONU 15-9, he ripped off four more wins. He beat Heidelberg 17-9, Ohio Wesleyan by fall in 1:59, Otterbein by medical forfeit, and ONU by pin in 2:19.
Dylan McCandless (197) also placed third. He fell in his opening match to ONU 8-0 but then responded with four wins. He beat Waynesburg by fall in 53 seconds, Washington & Jefferson by fall in 46 seconds, teammate
Dean Hetrick by pin in 2:48, and Otterbein by fall in 1:06.
Taking fourth was
Evan Straub at 184 pounds. He had wins over Otterbein 15-5, Heidelberg by fall in 2:54, Ohio Wesleyan 15-0, and Heidelberg 15-5.
Thaddeus Stuckey (157) finished fifth and had wins over Washington & Jefferson (pin 5:28), ONU (inj. 3:42), Ohio Wesleyan (pin 1:44), and Waynesburg 17-8.
Also taking fifth was
Carson Steinmetz (184). He had victories over Olivet 16-0, Ohio Wesleyan 20-5, Alma 11-4, and Heidelberg by medical forfeit.
Sixth place finishes went to
Candio Deluna (125) and Hetrick (197). Deluna beat Hiram (pin 2:49), Mount St. Joseph 10-2, and ONU 12-7. Hetrick, meanwhile, beat Heidelberg 5-0 and Otterbein (pin 4:25).
Chase Dickerson (133) was 7th. He had wins over Waynesburg 11-0, ONU (medical forfeit), and Alma 7-2.
Caden Crawford (125) and
Christopher Oleksiak (141) finished 8th. Crawford beat Olivet 8-5 and teammate
Dalton Boyd 19-3. Oleksiak beat Waynesburg (pin 2:03) and ONU 15-0.
