On Nov. 12, Tiffin University and the University of Findlay announced the creation of the "Battle for 224" trophy. The trophy will go to the winner of the rivalry game between Tiffin and Findlay each year. The two teams will battle it out for the trophy for the first time this Saturday, Nov. 16 at 12 pm at Frost Kalnow Stadium in Tiffin.
The trophy is a fitting reward to the annual victor, as the two football regional standouts are situated just 22 miles from one another on State Route 224. The game marks the 37
th meeting between the two schools.
In the 36 previous meetings between the two schools, the Oilers have dominated the matchup, posting a 32-4 overall record. But in recent seasons the rivalry has lived up to its name, with Tiffin and Findlay going 3-3 over the last six seasons. That rivalry also correlates to the length of time that both schools have been G-MAC members. Each year, the Tiffin-Findlay game tends to play for high stakes for one or both schools and is played on the final weekend of the regular season.
"We don't need added motivation for this rivalry, but this game has long been overdue for an official name," said Tiffin Athletic Director Kelly Daniel. "This will enhance the game day experience, environment, tradition, and acknowledge a hard-fought victory."Â
