The TU women's tennis team got their road trip off on the right foot with a 7-2 win at Hillsdale.
TU started strong with a 2-1 lead after doubles. The first doubles pairing of Nelhage and Kaye dominated in an 8-0 victory over Peirce and Delp, setting the tone for the rest of the match as the Dragons fed off this big victory. TU also won at 3rd doubles where Harpaintner and and Musina of TU defeated Hyman and Formentin in a close match 9-7. TU was able to capitalize on the few mistakes that Hillsdale made while playing aggressive themselves. The lone loss in doubles for the Dragons came at 2nd doubles where Avram and Mazzola lost a close 5-8 decision to Buck and Prost.
TU entered singles play up 2-1 and never looked back as they went on to win 7-2. All but a few of the matches were close and came down to Tiffin's ability to play smart tennis down the stretch and limit their mistakes. 1st Singles saw standout Nelhage drop the first set 1-6, but was able to bounce back to a 1-6, 6-2, 6-3 decision. Another close match came at 6th Singles where Aimee Kaye, competing in just her 2nd match in the singles lineup, defeated Julia Formentin 7-5, 6-4 to move to 2-0 in singles play. The Dragons also won at 2nd, 3rd and 4th singles, dropping only the 5th singles spot.
TU moves to 3-1, 2-1 GLIAC on the season and will travel to Wayne State to take on the Warriors on Sunday the 13th. The Dragons have an opportunity to win 3 of their first 4 GLIAC matches which are all on the road, before returning home next weekend to take on Walsh and Ashland.
