1st Doubles

TU - Nelhage/ Beck vs. IUP- Timko/Petercakova

TU ran into a stonewall of a team at 1st Doubles on Monday against IUP. The usual dominant Nelhage and Beck were shown what they usually do to opponents all season. TU lost a 3-8 decision that showed TU being a bit rocky and not used to the level of competition.

2nd Doubles

TU -Avram/Harpaintner vs. IUP - Von Agris/Wood

The first loss of the day came at 2nd Doubles where TU's Avram and Harpaintner lost a 1-8 decision. TU is usually the dominant team at 2nd Doubles by simply outplaying and over powering their opponents, which they have had no problem doing in the past. TU couldn't seem to get the ball to bounce their way on Monday against IUP and were out matched in doubles.

3rd Doubles

TU - Mazzola/Schuster vs. IUP - McFail/Butland

Similar to their 1st Doubles teammates, TU lost a 3-8 decision to IUP's 3rd Doubles team of McFail and Butland. 3rd Doubles has been a bit of a revolving door at practice and some matches with injuries and the moving of players around throughout the season, and TU didn't look comfortable against the experienced IUP team. Mazzola and Schuster are usually able to dictate play with their patient play styles, but that wasn't the case Monday as they were outmatched.

1st Singles

TU - Nelhage vs. IUP - Timko

Nothing seemed to go TU's way in regards to Women's Tennis on Monday. The usual dominant Nelhage lost a tight 5-7, 3-6 decision to IUP's Timko. Both players played an incredible match and it was certainly a clash of the titans at 1st Singles. Sometimes the ball just doesn't bounce your way and that was certainly going to be the deciding factor in a match as close as this between two fierce competitors.

2nd Singles

TU - Mazzola vs. IUP - Petercakova

In a shocking rout at 2nd Singles, TU's Mazzola lost 1-6, 0-6 to IUP's Petercakova. Mazzola didn't seem comfortable at the IUP complex and couldn't get into her rhythm of dominance and aggression against the Slovakian Sophomore. Mazzola struggled out of the gate and couldn't right the ship which inevitably cost her the match.

3rd Singles

TU - Harpaintner vs. IUP - Gonzalez

In a strategic move by Coach Conley, Harpaintner played 3rd Singles for the Dragons against IUP, but it didn't seem to make a difference as the usual reliant Harpaintner lost a 1-6, 4-6 decision. Similar to other matches, Harpaintner started off slow and it certainly put her in a deficit that she couldn't overcome in the first set. The second set was much closer and better fought, with a lone break deciding the match.

4th Singles

TU - Avram vs. IUP - Butland

The hard hitting University of Toledo transfer lost a 0-6, 3-6 decision to IUP's Butland on Monday. Avram was moved to the 4th Singles spot in favor of Harpaintner taking over the 3rd Singles spot. Avram continued the slow start in the first set for the Dragons which was costly as it put her down early and she couldn't claw her way back into the match.

5th Singles

TU - Beck vs. IUP - Wood

TU's captain and lone Senior played a tough opponent in IUP's Wood in which she lost a 1-6, 0-6 decision. A late scratch of Von Agris pitted Beck up against IUP's Wood, but it didn't seem to matter. Beck's usual dominance in doubles was upended Monday and that carried over into her singles loss. Beck, along with her teammates, started off the match slow and couldn't seem to recover and Wood took advantage of what she could in both sets to take a quick win for her team.

6th Singles

TU - Schuster vs. IUP - McCormick

TU's Lone win on the day came at 6th Singles where Abi Schuster was able to upend Abby McCormick 4-6, 6-3, 10-1 in a match that saw the third set decided by a 10 point tie breaker due to time restraints. Schuster is often regarded as having ice water for veins as she continually wins matches in dramatic 3 set or tie breaker fashion for the Dragons. She will certainly be an asset for the Dragons come regional tournament time.
