The Tiffin University Women's Tennis team competed in their first round match against Ferris State University in the GLIAC Tennis Tournament located in Midland, Michigan. The Dragons earned the 4th seed and competed against the 5th seed Ferris State University Bulldogs, winning 5-2 to advance to the second round against Grand Valley State.
The format for what matches are played each day differs day to day and for the Dragons leading going into singles was important. The Dragons took a 2-1 lead after their usual strategy worked again. The Dragons won 1st and 3rd doubles. 1st doubles of Kaye/Nelhage was a clean fast win as the Dragons won 8-3. 2nd doubles lost a tough 3-8 decision in favor of the Bulldogs where Mazzola/Avram played a tough match, but ultimately lost. The doubles match of the day came at 3rd doubles where Harpaintner/Musina won a thrilling 9-7 decision to give the Dragons a 2-1 lead entering singles play.
The Dragons showed up to play as they won 3 of the 4 singles matches played to take a 5-2 victory in the first round. 1st singles saw the reliable Nelhage win in straight sets 6-4, 6-1. 2nd singles was a show as Senior Valentina Mazzola dropped the first set 0-6 and came roaring back to win the next two 6-2, 6-2. Mazzola has struggled at times during the season, but came through when the team needed her most. 3rd singles saw Musina stay dominant winning in quick fashion 6-0, 6-2. The lone loss for the Dragons was at 5th singles where Avram dropped a 1-6, 4-6 decision.
The Dragons will play their second round match on Saturday the 24th against number one seeded Grand Valley State University at 3:45 P.M
