Tiffin University (2-5) had a rockin' good time in their non-conference game against South Dakota School of Mines and Technology, blasting the Hardrockers 60-21 in a game played at Drake University.
The Dragons' 60 points was the fourth highest point total in school history, while their 634 yards of total offense was the third highest total in TU history. The team also passed for 474 yards, the second highest passing total in the TU record books. All three numbers were Division II records for the Dragons.
Tiffin got on the board quickly, driving 74 yards on 7 plays and capping it off with a 6 yard run by Jerry Brown at the 11:43 mark to give TU a 6-0 lead.
TU scored again at 2:10 of the first quarter when Patrick Boggs tore down field for a 31 yard TD run that gave the Dragons a 12-0 lead at the end of the quarter.
After the Hardrockers got a touchdown after a 75 yard drive, TU answered quickly, as Antonio Pipkin nailed Jeremy Armstrong on a 43 yard TD pass that put TU up 19-7 at the 11:00 mark of the second quarter.
SDSMT answered with a 15 yard TD pass that brought the score to 19-14 but after that it was all Dragons as the Hardrockers scored only once more in the game.
TU got two more scores before the half. Marcus Beaurem hauled in a 53 yard pass from Tyler Jones to finish off an 80 yard drive with 2:49 to play in the half, putting TU up 26-14. Oliver Cyprian then scored with 30 seconds left on a 3 yard pass from Pipkin to give TU a 33-14 halftime lead.
TU kept the momentum rolling in the second half, with Tony Shead grabbing another Pipkin toss from 7 yards out at 11:05 of the third quarter after a Brandon Davis punt block gave the Dragons great field position. TU then led 40-14.
Boggs added his second rushing touchdown on a 4 yard run to make it 46-14 at the 4:10 mark, while James Hall got in on the action with a 1 yard scoring run at 13:50 of the fourth quarter as TU amassed a 53-14 lead.
TU's final score came at 6:30 of the final period, when Joey Frendo hit Austen Rankin on a 53 yard bomb to finish off a 79 yard drive and put TU ahead 60-14. The Hardrockers added a final touchdown with 2:59 to play.
Overall TU outgained SDSMT 634-266 and also held a big time of possession 37:35 to 22:25.
Pipkin completed 34 of 43 passes for 338 yards and 3 touchdowns with just one interception. Joey Frendo passed for 83 yards on 5 for 8 passing with a TD as well.
TU's receivers had a field day, with Beauren gaining 108 yards on 5 catches while Armstrong had 81 yards on 4 catches. Rankin had 66 yards, Jones added 69, Cyprian had 49 yards, Shead finished with 44, and Jacob Schneider also had 45 yards receiving.
Boggs rushed for 68 yards on 7 carries with 2 scores while Brown added 30 yards rushing.
Defensively Bryon McCorkle had 10 tackles, while Terry Harper had 6. Judes Amilcar had 5 tackles with a sack and 2 tackles for loss. Stefan Willis and Justin Herrnstein also had interceptions.
