Shauna Hurles recently completed her second season as Head Coach of the Dragons in 2018.
In 2018, Hurles led Tiffin women's volleyball to their best season since 2006 with a 21-11 overall record and a 15-4 mark in their first season in the G-MAC. That mark was third-highest in the conference and earned the 3-seed in the West Division in the G-MAC playoffs. From Aug. 31-Sept. 22, Hurles' squad won 11-straight games, tying the mark for longest winning streak in TU history that was held by the 1991 team. Two of Hurles' athletes earned All-GMAC recognition, Jenna Huffman (First Team) and Amanda Curry (Second Team), while Huffman was also named Second Team All-Region.
Hurles' first year with Tiffin was one for the record books, seeing her team win 20 games. The 20-win season was the first for Tiffin as a NCAA Division II program. Tiffin also qualified for the GLIAC Tournament, finishing 6th overall during the regular season. Under Shauna's direction, Taylor Lattimore was named GLIAC Libero of the Year, and Jenna Huffman was a 1st team All-GLIAC selection.
She previously served as an assistant coach for two seasons with Tiffin after four years of coaching at Wynford High School, two seasons as the junior varsity head coach and two as the varsity head coach. Hurles also taught Special Education while at Wynford.
Shauna played college volleyball at Bluffton University. Her outstanding career includes conference accolades, numerous school records, a conference championship, and a conference tournament championship. Shauna was the starting setter for the Beavers from 2007-2010. Her leadership and performance on the floor led Bluffton to it first HCAC regular season and tournament championship in 2009. Hurles was not done though. Her play helped the Beavers make their first NCAA Tournament appearance the same season. Her play earned her numerous accolades, including 1st team HCAC in 2008, 2009, and 2010. Shauna was selected as Bluffton's first HCAC MVP in 2009.
Shauna's accomplishments fill the Bluffton record book. She holds the 2nd, 3rd, and 5th rank for all-time assists per set in a season, and sits 4th, 7th, and 14th all-time for assists per season. She is the all-time leader in assists per set in a career with 8.93 assists per set, and Shauna is 2nd all-time in career assists with 3,695.
Shauna graduated from Bluffton University with a degree in Education, with a focus as an Intervention Specialist. She will further her education, as she is pursuing a Master's Degree in Higher Education Administration. Shauna and her husband Michael reside in Bucyrus, Ohio.
