INDIANAPOLIS - The Great Midwest Athletic Conference has released the results of the 2019 GMAC Volleyball Preseason Coaches Poll presented by UnderArmour, and Tiffin volleyball has been chosen to finish third in the thirteen-team league.
Defending conference champion Hillsdale was picked atop the GMAC with 142 points and 10 first place votes, followed by Findlay with 135 points and three first-place votes. The Dragons totalled 116 points for third, with Walsh (107) and Lake Erie (98) rounding out the top five.
TU is coming off one of their most successful seasons in program history, finishing the 2018 campaign 21-11 overall and 15-4 in the GMAC, with their only conference losses coming to the teams slotted above them in the poll, Hillsdale and Findlay. Their overall record was the best finish for the program since 2006, and included an 11-game win streak that tied the program record set in 1991.
Three-time First Team All-Conference performer Jenna Huffman returns for her senior season to lead the Dragon charge. Huffman finished 2018 first in the GMAC with a .391 hitting percentage, third with 3.89 kills per set, first with 1.19 blocks per set, and first with 4.91 points per set.
Tiffin opens the 2019 season with a pair of tournaments in St. Petersburg, Fla. and Louisville, Ky. before their home opener against Indianapolis on Sept. 20 as part of the Tiffin/Findlay Tournament. Conference play gets underway shortly after on Sept. 27 at Lake Erie, followed a couple of weeks later by a huge weekend at home against Hillsdale (10/11) and Findlay (10/12). TU will wrap up the regular season with five-straight home games in the beginning of November, with the GMAC Championships set to begin on Nov. 19.
