The Tiffin University women's golf team was crowned the team champion at the Champions of Women's Golf Classic hosted by Ohio Dominican University. The Dragons (+ 39) placed first out of 15 teams with a 36-round score of 599. Lisa Marie Schumacher was also the individual champion of the tournament for the second year in a row, and that is now back-to-back victories for Schumacher to begin the season.
The Dragons held on for the victory after holding a one stroke lead over second place Ohio Dominican and three stroke lead over third place Ashland after day one of competition.
Schumacher (-1) had a round one score of 70 and round two score of 69 for a tournament total of 139. Abby Thompson placed eighth with a total of 152 (78 and 74). Primross Chikwaya placed tied for 19th with equal rounds of 78 for a tournament total of 156.
Laura Goetz also finished tied for 19th with round scores of 76 and 80. Louise Hedstrom was shortly behind in 26th place with a 158 (82 and 76). Jeanne Dolle finished with a 168 (88 and 80). Alexis Zimmer competed as an individual and finished with an 89 and 85 for 174.
Ashland ended up finishing second, two strokes behind Tiffin with a 601. The third-place team finisher was Davenport with 618 and rounding out the top five was Gannon in fourth and Glenville State in fifth.
The Dragons will return to the course on Monday, Sept. 30 and Tuesday, Oct. 1 when they travel to Findlay to compete in the William Beall Fall Classic.
