MANKATO, Minn. - Lynzi Daughenbaugh (pentathlon) and John Pemberton (shot put) earned All-American honors for the Tiffin University men's and women's track and field team at the NCAA Division II National Championships. This was the fourth straight season that a TU athlete earned All-American honors at the meet.
On the men's side, Tiffin scored six points to finish 28th. Grand Canyon edged Adams State, 54-47 for the title. Rounding out the top five was Southern Connecticut State (3rd - 39 pts), Findlay (4th - 35 pts) and St. Augustine (5th - 34 pts).
For the women, the Dragons tied for 47th with one point. Grand Valley State scored 94 points to win the title by 43 points over Adams State. Rounding out the top five was Lincoln (3rd - 43 pts), Central Missouri State (4th - 42 pts) and Hillsdale (5th - 33 pts).
"We came out and competed this weekend," said head coach Jeremy Croy. "After the GLIAC meet, I know John (Pemberton) was looking to rebound and he did. Lynzi (Daughenbaugh) had a solid performance. To be ranked 12th and move up four spots is a great accomplishment. Travis (LeFlore) and Ashley (DeWitt) were right on the edge of being All-Americans. I couldn't be prouder of the athletes that competed this weekend."
Pemberton broke his own school record in the shot put with a toss of 57 feet, 7.75 inches to place third. He is the highest individual finisher and the first thrower to earn All-American honors at NCAA DII.
Daughenbaugh scored a school record 3587 points to place eighth in the pentathlon. She is only the second female athlete to earn honors at NCAA DII, joining Kristen Ameling (shot put - 2009). Daughenbaugh set the school record in the high jump at five feet, eight inches and her 800 of 2:27.92 was among the top 10 in TU history.
Travis LeFlore cleared six feet, 9.50 inches to place ninth in the high jump. He was one of three jumpers to initially tie for eighth; however the tie breaking system moved him down a spot. Ashley DeWitt was ninth in the 20-LB weight with a toss of 58 feet, 10 inches.
Katie Gerhardt threw the shot put 45 feet, 2.50 inches to place 10th. Marielle Segbor jumped 37 feet, 5.75 inches to place 15th in the triple jump.
