FINDLAY, Ohio - Senior John Pemberton provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championships with a throw of 56'-8.75" (17.29 meters) in the shot put, the ninth-best toss so far in all NCAA divisions, and near misses in the men's and women's high jump highlighted the Dragons' performances at the Findlay Oiler Open, the first indoor track and field meet of the season for Tiffin.
In the women's high jump, senior Meghan Gill placed fourth (second among NCAA Division II athletes). Clearing the bar at 5'-4.25" (1.63 meters), Gill was just .04 meters short of the NCAA standard. Junior Travis LeFlore finished with a height of 6'-6.25" (1.99 meters), just missing the NCAA mark by .05 meters. LeFlore finished third, second among NCAA Division II athletes.
In the 600 meters, Tiffin took four of the top six spots on the men's side. Sophomore Zachary Lathrop won the event in 1:22.34 (fourth best time in the event regardless of division this season so far), while junior Sylvester Watts took fourth (1:24.62), sophomore Jordan Selfe came in fifth (1:25.97) and sophomore Andrew Moore finished sixth (1:26.47).
Also on the men's side, senior Deven Keene took fourth in the 60 meters (7.03) and fifth in the 200 meters (22.71) while freshman Emmanuel Grembo (21'-8", 6.60 meters) and sophomore Jarrod Thomas (21'-3.50", 6.49 meters) finished fourth and fifth in the long jump, respectively.
Freshman Antonio Combs finished third in the triple jump with a distance of 42'-8.75."
On the women's side, freshman Taylor Deskins and junior Markita Holland finished third and fourth in the 300 meters with times of 42.60 and 43.20, respectively. Sophomore Kayla Ellks took fourth in the triple jump (34'-7", 10.54 meters) and fifth in the long jump (17'-3.5", 5.27 meters).
The Tiffin men's and women's track and field teams return to action next weekend (Dec. 10-11) when it travels to Kent, Ohio to take part in the annual Golden Flash Gala, hosted by Kent State.
