Men's Cross Country Claims 4th at GLIAC Championships

HILLSDALE, Mich. - The Tiffin University men's cross country team finished fourth of 12 teams while the women finished eighth of 14 teams at the 2010 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships in Hillsdale, Mich. Saturday afternoon. Grand Valley State claimed both the men's and women's titles.

The men's team finished with 106 points, just one behind third-place Wayne State (105). Ashland (108) finished ahead of both the Warriors and Dragons by just a mere eight points.

Dominique O'Neill was the top finisher on the men's side, taking 12th with a time of 25:45.1. Teammate Jeremy Lee was right behind by four seconds. Kyle Faerber rounded out the top three for Tiffin, taking 22nd with a time of 26:05.5. Jason Bumb finished behind Faerber by nine seconds, taking 25th.

With the Dragons trailing the Warriors by two spots, everything came down to the final runner for both teams. Tiffin's Mike Eblin (26:28.1) edged out Nick Jackson of Wayne State by 0.6, but it was not enough as Tiffin fell to WSU by one spot.

The women finished eighth overall and second among the five Ohio teams. Carly Reese took the top spot for Tiffin, finishing 15th overall with a time of 22:25.1. Becky Miller (22:58.5) took 23rd overall while Samantha Hassan and Maria Shaw took 52nd and 53rd with times of 23:45.0 and 23:46.7, respectively.

Tichelle Brant rounded out the top five for the Dragons, finishing 75th with a time of 25:07.5 to help Tiffin finish 23 points ahead of rival Findlay.

The Tiffin men's and women's cross country teams return to action Nov. 20 when they travel to Louisville, Ky. to take part in the NCAA Division II Great Lakes Regional hosted by Bellarmine University.
