LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Tiffin University cross country teams gained valuable experience this weekend at the ninth annual Greater Louisville Cross Country Classic, hosted by Bellarmine University's E.P. Tom Sawyer State Park. The men's team finished fourth while the women's squad finished 11th of 34 teams.
The race was also a preview for the Dragons of the course for the 2010 NCAA Division II Midwest Regional Meet on Sat. Nov. 20.
The race featured numerous teams ranked in the regional polls on the men's side. Tiffin, ranked eighth in the latest US Track And Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Midwest Region Poll, defeated second-ranked Southern Indiana and ninth-ranked Lewis University. Individually, senior Jeremy Lee led the men with a sixth place finish, finishing the 8k race in 25:18.40.
Also finishing in the top 50 were senior Dom O'Neill in 25:43.00 (23rd), senior Jason Bumb in 25:59.30 (36th) and senior Kyle Faerber in 26:11.20 (49th)
Leading the women's team was sophomore Carly Reese in 34th (19:10.09). Just three seconds later in 38th was junior teammate Becky Miller. Freshman Ashley Gillroy took crossed the finish line in 19:44.82, finishing 83rd.
The Tiffin cross country teams return to action in two weeks when they travel to Bowling Green, Ohio for the Falcon Invite. The women's race begins at 10:45 a.m. while the men's race is set for 11:30 a.m.
