Tiffin University's Coy Blair muscled his way to a 9th place finish in the shot put at the USA Track & Field Championship with a throw of 19.40 meters (63'-7 3/4").
Of the 18 competitors in the event, six had NCAA Division I affiliations. Coy shot by the collegiate competition, edging out Indiana's William Morrison by 6 1/4 inches for the highest collegiate finish. Team Nike placed four athletes inside the top 5, with Ryan Crouser taking the crown with a throw of 74'-3 3/4".
Coy's career at Tiffin stands as one of, if not the best in Tiffin history. Blair was a member of back-to-back NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championship teams, an individual NCAA Champion in the shot put and weight throw, a member of the 2017 Indoor GLIAC Championship team, an individual GLIAC Indoor and Outdoor Champion in the shot put in 2016 and 2017, and a 2017 GLIAC Champion in the hammer throw. Coy took home numerous individual awards for his efforts, including Midwest Region Athlete of the Year, National Athlete of the Week, and the USTFCCCA National Athlete of the Year award.
